Bluebird Golf Program

The Bluebird Golf Program is a 10-week summer training program designed to prepare athletes for the Vermont Special Olympics Golf Tournament on September 20, 2026.

Open to athletes with intellectual disabilities ages 8 and older, the Bluebird Golf Program provides participants with the opportunity to learn and develop golf skills in a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment. Athletes will receive instruction from dedicated coaches and volunteers while developing golf fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork, confidence, and course etiquette.

Training sessions are held weekly and focus on all aspects of the game, including driving, chipping, putting, course management, and on-course play. Athletes of all skill levels are welcome.

Participants will train for the various Special Olympics golf competition formats, including:

• Individual Skills Competition

• 9-Hole Individual Play

• 9-Hole Alternate Shot Team Play

• 18-Hole Individual Play

• 18-Hole Alternate Shot Team Play

Through a scholarship fund established in memory of a dedicated volunteer, participation in the Bluebird Golf Program is offered at no cost to athletes and their families.

• Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow coaches and volunteers will provide instruction and support throughout the season

Special Olympics Participation

Athletes interested in competing at the Vermont Special Olympics Golf Tournament on September 20, 2026 must complete the required Special Olympics Vermont Athlete Registration paperwork.

Participants should be available to attend the Vermont Special Olympics Golf Tournament at Basin Harbor Resort in Vergennes, Vermont.

Summer Adaptive Hiking

Join Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow for an outdoor adventure exploring the natural beauty of Southern Vermont. Summer Adaptive Hiking provides adaptive athletes ages 5 and older with the opportunity to experience local trails, forests, scenic overlooks, and other outdoor destinations throughout the Mount Snow and Deerfield Valley region.

Guided by Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow staff and volunteers, participants will enjoy accessible hikes designed to accommodate a wide range of abilities. Along the way, hikers will have opportunities to learn about local wildlife, ecology, and the natural environment while building confidence, staying active, and connecting with friends.

Whether you are an experienced hiker or simply enjoy spending time outdoors, Summer Adaptive Hiking offers a fun, supportive, and inclusive way to discover Vermont's natural beauty.

An all-terrain hiking chair is available for participants with mobility limitations, making it possible for everyone to explore the trails and enjoy the outdoors.  Participants who wish to use the hiking chair must contact our office after submitting their reservation request as the equipment and support team must be arranged in advance and cannot be added on the day of the activity.

Adaptive Hiking with Game Warden Kyle

Join Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow for a guided outdoor adventure through the beautiful trails, forests, and natural areas of the Deerfield Valley region. Participants will explore Southern Vermont while enjoying fresh air, exercise, and time with friends, volunteers, and staff.

This special hike will feature Vermont Game Warden Kyle Sherwood, who will share his knowledge of local wildlife, conservation, outdoor safety, and the natural environment. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the animals, habitats, and ecosystems that make Vermont such a unique place to explore.

Hikes are designed to accommodate a wide range of abilities and focus on building confidence, promoting physical activity, encouraging social interaction, and fostering a connection with nature.

Blueberry Cooking with Dustin

Join ASMS volunteer Dustin for a fun and hands-on blueberry cooking activity! Participants will pick berries from the local Boyd farm and then work together to create a delicious blueberry treat while learning simple kitchen skills such as measuring, mixing, following recipes, and preparing fresh ingredients. This engaging activity encourages creativity, teamwork, confidence, and independence in the kitchen.

Whether you are an experienced helper in the kitchen or trying something new for the first time, this activity provides a welcoming environment to learn, create, and have fun with friends, volunteers, and staff. Best of all, everyone gets to enjoy a tasty blueberry snack at the end of the program!

Blueberry Festival Float Decoration & Parade Participation

Join Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow as we celebrate the Deerfield Valley Blueberry Festival by creating and participating in our community parade float.

Participants will work alongside ASMS staff, volunteers, family members, and friends to decorate the float before taking part in the annual Blueberry Festival Parade. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow community while celebrating inclusion, creativity, teamwork, and community spirit.

Following the decorating activities, participants will ride on or walk alongside the ASMS float during the Blueberry Festival Parade through West Dover.

Fishing with Anthony

Join Anthony and the Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow team for a relaxing day of fishing and enjoying the outdoors. Whether you're an experienced angler or trying fishing for the first time, this outing is a great opportunity to spend time with friends, learn new skills, and enjoy the beauty of Vermont's waterways.

ASMS staff and volunteers will be available to assist participants throughout the event.

Important Information

• All participants who wish to fish must possess a valid Vermont Fishing License.

• Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow will assist participants and families with obtaining a license if needed.

• Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the activity.

• Fishing equipment availability and event details will be provided upon confirmation.

Family Float with Zoar Outdoor

Join Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow for an exciting day on the Deerfield River with our friends at Zoar Outdoor. Participants will enjoy a guided whitewater rafting adventure on the scenic Fife Brook section of the Deerfield River, featuring approximately five miles of Class I and Class II rapids. This family-friendly experience combines outdoor recreation, teamwork, and adventure in a supportive environment designed for adaptive athletes and their families.

The actual cost of this activity has been significantly reduced through scholarships and community support provided by Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow.

Important Information

• Open to adaptive students ages 5 and older

• Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian complete all required waivers

• All participants will be required to wear a Zoar Outdoor-issued helmet and personal flotation device (PFD)

• All rafting equipment will be provided

• Participants should expect to get wet

• Sneakers or secure footwear are required. Flip-flops, Crocs, and other loose footwear are not permitted

• Participants should bring any required medications, including EpiPens, inhalers, or diabetic medications

• Paddling is optional for this activity

Raft Configuration & Participant Support

Each raft accommodates up to six participants plus one professional Zoar Outdoor guide.

Adaptive Sports at Mount Snow strives to provide a 1:1 support ratio whenever possible. Depending on enrollment and volunteer availability, rafts may be organized with up to three adaptive students accompanied by three ASMS volunteers.

Parents and guardians are welcome to participate and may serve as the primary support person for their child. Final raft assignments will be determined by ASMS staff based on participant needs, volunteer availability, and overall group safety.

Participation Requirements

Participants must be able to:

• Respond to and follow verbal or visual instructions

• Independently roll face-up in water while wearing a PFD

• Maintain an upright floating position with head above water

• Navigate uneven terrain and rocky surfaces with minimal assistance
